That said, following a massive leak of various game titles from NVIDIA, insiders confirmed that one of the leaked games, Project Cortez, is the codename for Moden Warfare 2. It's not exactly a secret that Call of Duty 2022 will be MW2 given the success of the last entry and the fact Infinity Ward is on deck for next year. As of right now, Activision hasn't officially announced Modern Warfare 2 as it's laser-focused on the upcoming launch of Call of Duty: Vanguard this November. This is a rather dramatic change in the story in comparison to both the 2019 Modern Warfare reboot and the original Modern Warfare 2 from 2009. The first plot details for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2have allegedly leaked, and it will apparently focus on the war on drugs.
